Today's guest is Erica Weiderlight. She is a life coach and founder of we the Light, where she helps clients with confidence, empowerment and executive coaching. Erica, welcome to Big Ticket Pros. What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out in your industry?
[00:01:15] Speaker B: Oh, I love this. You know, it's so funny because I've gotten a lot of shade for this, but I think it's one of the, the reasons why I have success and honest, honestly helps me go to bed at night is being myself and being authentic. I think especially in the coaching industry, especially within executive coaching, that's a flavor. But especially with my work with pleasure and love coaching, you could see copy and paste, you know. So I think for me it's like be yourself and people want to feel you, especially since, you know, it's a vulnerable, you know, a vulnerable job. So you want to be felt. And so the most quintessential piece of advice, like be yourself, but like be yourself. And I think authenticity is really huge, especially in a relationship which is quite literally founded on trust.
[00:02:08] Speaker A: Well, I have to ask though, since you brought it up, what is the difference between be yourself and be yourself?
[00:02:15] Speaker B: I love it. That's so good. Well, that's hilarious for me. Oh, it's like, it's a little bit more grounded, you know, Like I think. Okay, I'm going to go on a little tangent here. It's like, for me, I think it's like authenticity. Authenticity, right. Because I think for me especially I have an acting background and I, you know, whatever, that's a big part of my life. I would find myself like being a character or a character especially, and then into business, like with marketing. Right. Like this is what it should look like and oh, haha, I'm like, I mix this and this, and, like, I think that's like a be yourself, but, like. But also be a brand, you know? Like, I think, like, that's kind of that. You know what I mean? Like, be yourself, but let it be, like, marketable.
[00:02:56] Speaker A: You know, you really tapped into something there. Because, you know, I have a conversation with the lady sometimes, and. And I'll say, hey, are you hungry? And she'll say, yeah. And I'll say, great. You. Do you want to go and you want to go and get steak tonight? And she'll be like, yeah. And I'm like, okay, but if I know she really wants it, I'll be like, you want to go get steak tonight? And she'd be like, yes.
[00:03:20] Speaker B: It's so true. No, it's so. It's like, just. It's like, a little difference. It's a subtle difference, but it's a little bit more grounded. You know what I mean? And, like, just a little bit more. I know I'm using authentic to explain authentic, but, like, a little bit more.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: Yeah, but is it authentic or is it.
[00:03:35] Speaker B: It's authentic.
Yeah, it's that deep authentic.
[00:03:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it's the deep authentic. And so. Well, let's talk about.
You are a life coach, and, you know, sometimes there. There's a good portion of the population out there who's like, I need a life coach.
[00:03:54] Speaker B: Right?
[00:03:55] Speaker A: And then there's another portion of the population is like, what's a life coach?
And then there's this even third part of the population. It's like, life coach. Do those guys do anything? And so, like, what is a life coach for somebody who's like, I'm not sure what a life coach is. Are you coaching on how to live my life? Like, for. To translate for us?
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, you know what's so funny? It's like, no. But then I laugh because right before this, I was on my own podcast doing an episode about living so. And being alive. So it is kind of like, kind of. Honestly, like, there is a piece of that of, like, authentically living. Um, but for me, you know, I always go in and I say, my work, you know, I start with. Often people seek me for love, pleasure, business, and then, you know, the deal, everything's connected. So, like, we'll be talking like, they came to me because they're like, I'm working through a breakup, and then they're like, I have problem problems with money. You know what I mean? So it's. I usually. It's why I do that is to invite people in because it is so broad. It's like life. What are you going to help me with my whole life? And I'm like, yeah, actually like it sounds really crazy, but yes.
[00:05:04] Speaker A: Well, so, so if you're going to help somebody with their whole life, one, one thing, that one thing that I found is the world is actually very simple. People are actually very simple. Ideas are actually very, very simple. They usually are only composed of one or two maybe three ingredients, just like all of the elements and fundamental compounds of the universe. Water is H2O, you know, so if we're talking about getting somebody's life, right. How do we boil it down to those two or three kind of fundamental elements that you really gotta focus on to get everything else in. In order?
[00:05:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I think you actually nailed it. I think it's like getting to the core because I think often, you know, as humans we complicate things and it's like, ah, like for me part of my job is boiling it down and kind of filtering through. Right. And that's why, so I know you said before, like, what is life coaching for me for at least my, I'll speak for my work. It's like I say it's fun therapy because I do mix like traditional talk therapy, but I also mix embodiment and somatic work. And part of that, what we're talking about here, like part of that is boiling down the stuff and getting to the core, right? Like the core desires of like the core emotions. And, and for me that's part of my job, you know, holding folks to, to do that and to feel safe to do that.
[00:06:36] Speaker A: Makes sense. And so getting down to that core, what are some of those pillars inside of that core you mentioned about problems with money? Well, going through a breakup. So we've got health, wealth, relationships, basically, like totally. Yeah. So, so have you found that everybody tends to struggle with one over the other. Is it evenly distributed?
[00:07:00] Speaker B: It's a free for. It's evenly. I'll say it's free for all, but it's, it's a, it's, it's evenly distributed.
And again at the core, like there's core desires, right? So it's like, and I always say this too, it's like, okay, I want more money. Great. Why? I want love. Great. Why? And it's not to take away that desire, but for me, getting underneath the desire, like what do you really want? Oh, I want to feel safe. I want to feel seen.
So we can boil down most of these desires, but like you Said there's a fundamental humanness that we all crave, you know, and for me, I'm a spiritual person. I don't put that on anyone. You know, some people are going to want to hear it. I'm like, great.
[00:07:40] Speaker A: But.
[00:07:40] Speaker B: But that also, of course, comes into play, you know, when you're talking about this. Like the spirituality of it all, of course comes into play when we talk about these things.
[00:07:52] Speaker A: And so translating this into.
Because I. We can, we can go like a mile deep on this rabbit.
[00:07:59] Speaker B: Oh, oh, totally.
[00:08:01] Speaker A: But translating that back into the, the topic of this podcast, Big Ticket. We've got entrepreneurs who are out there selling big, expensive things.
[00:08:12] Speaker B: Right.
[00:08:13] Speaker A: And I would say one of the best things that we could learn from you is, well, what are people's core desires? Because if, if me as an entrepreneur or business owner or a high performing sales professional, if I really understand how to read somebody's core desires, then I have a better chance of actually providing those.
[00:08:37] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:08:38] Speaker A: Providing the environment that allows that to happen. So are there any kind of tricks to the trade to really getting deep and understanding what's going on behind the scenes without just directly asking?
[00:08:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I think you actually nailed it. And that is so important, like knowing that you're not just, if you're giving, right? If you're selling a service, you're not just selling, which we know, that service, you're selling that experience under the desire. Right? So if someone, you know, I'm hiring a coach to whatever, make more money. Okay, great. That's like, we love that. We'll take more money. But like, why, like what really understanding, like why, like what's underneath these desires? Like, why do they want that? And, and being able to speak that to people and be able to provide that I think is so core in, in, in sales and being a human, you know what I mean? But I think you nailed something like that is underneath the core of, of my work. And I know we'll probably go into this, into a second, in a second. But also for me, I know we joked, like the living part, like what you hire this person to live. You know what I mean? And I'm like, they're kind of. Yes.
Like, part of my work is, is pleasure. And for me, you know, holding folks that are huge entrepreneurs have huge, massive success in business is how can I integrate pleasure in a way that makes this work sustainable? Right? Because people that are tuning into this conversation, we're on the go, we're moving, we're hustling. So the use of pleasure to create Sustainability within these huge systems, if that makes sense.
[00:10:19] Speaker A: Yeah, most definitely. I mean, I just had this conversation recently about if you're. You got into business or you became an entrepreneur or, or a contractor or whatever because you wanted that freedom, right? So where's your freedom?
[00:10:38] Speaker B: Totally.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: You have none because you work yourself to the bone.
[00:10:42] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:10:43] Speaker A: And, and for what?
At some point you're gonna be, you're gonna be laying down in your deathbed and wondering, well, why the hell did I do that?
[00:10:51] Speaker B: Right? It's like, what was this for? Like, what ha. Like I lost the plot. You know what I mean? Like, I literally lost the point of why I. Part of this journey.
[00:10:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, exactly. And so. Well, tell us a little bit more about who you serve and what your general process is for. For understanding how to help someone.
[00:11:12] Speaker B: Yeah, sure. So it's funny, you know, everyone has like an ideal client avatar and I always do that. Right. Like I always like, do a business inventory and check in like, who is my ideal client. And, and I can give you that. But in true Erica fashion, it's a hodgepodge. Like, I've had clients that are 18 year year olds. I have clients that are 76 and are closing their businesses.
And what the, the beauty of that is, you think, oh my God, these people are so different. And like we're, we're talking about, they may look so different, but as humans, we kind of all want the same thing.
Which is so cool, you know, because it's like, oh, this person's going to be so different or oh, this person, you know, but that's a little bit about who I serve. It's people that really want to live a life full of more pleasure, more joy.
They want to add that pleasure to, you know, their businesses, to their, to their life. And they, I know we joke, but they really do want to live, you know, live a really rich life. So that could come in, you know, all different packages.
[00:12:15] Speaker A: That's awesome. And so where can we go to learn more about that?
[00:12:19] Speaker B: Yeah, so I love free resources. I'm big on that podcast, blog, ebook. Because I know, you know, everyone's different, how they want to touch base. But all those, those tools are located in one place. And that's my website, which is www.we the light.org and like I said, blog, podcast, ebook, free consultation. And just like some inspiration, it's. We love the, the free inspo. You know, it's a good place to, to get it.
